Two cops walk into a bar. Mason, the bartender, waits for the punch line, because no way in hell are these ridiculously hot men real cops. They’re straight out of a cop-fetish fantasy. But he quickly learns that Jack and Gray are the real deal, and they want him in the worst way.
What starts as a night of hot, three-way sex becomes a lot more. The two cops fulfill Mason’s submissive fantasies, but they also meet a more basic need, comfort. They want to take care of Mason, to offer him unconditional friendship, but their concern for him unnerves Mason more than even the kinkiest sex.
To find happiness with his new partners, Mason must change his belief that love is as much a fantasy as a pair of gorgeous, handcuff-wielding cops landing in his bed.
Fitting In is a story of finding love in unlikely places. Mason is a sweet guy and a bit of a self-confessed nerd. His family is less than supportive, both of his supposed gay phase and his unwillingness to pursue a career as a lawyer. He’s working as a bartender and putting himself through college for a degree in chemistry. Mason has been burnt by love in the past and is reluctant to get involved again, but isn’t really in anonymous sex, either. He’s fine with focusing on his studies, spending his time off reading scientific journals and watching his favourite Star Trek episodes. Right? Right! At least, he was, until two gorgeous, sexy cops catch his eye at the bar where he works.
Jack and Gray are two gay cops who are forced to keep not only their sexual orientation under wraps, but also their relationship with each other or risk having their working partnership being broken and reassigned to different precincts. While they’ve played around with a third participant from time to time, they are happy and in love with each other. But Mason has attracted their attention, they both like what they see. A lot. And not just his looks.
When Jack and Gray approach Mason, Mason is reluctant at first to get involved. He’s been the third wheel once before and it didn’t end well with the couple he joined ending up fighting over him. Although Mason continues to have doubts, it’s hard to resist two persistent, hot cops and it becomes impossible to deny his attraction to them any longer. Especially when he discovers that Gray is a Dom who speaks deeply to his submissive nature and Jack is the perfect foil with his calm presence.
As their relationship develops, it becomes increasingly obvious that Jack and Gray don’t consider Mason a toy to spice up their sex lives, but genuinely care for him and as more than a friend. The questions is, can they get Mason to see that?
Fitting In is a sweet and enjoyable light read. It touches on Jack and Gray’s struggles about being in the closet because of their work situation and Mason’s need to overcome his insecurities and put the past behind him, but it’s main focus is the blooming relationship of the three men. Once the men did get together, the sex was hot and frequent without sacrificing the emotion and development of their relationship. It felt that the angst caused by Mason’s constant declarations that he shouldn’t be getting involved with an already established loving couple as he would cause their break-up went on a bit too long and ended up feeling a little contrived because of that. The introduction of the D/s element worked well and showed how the three men actually complimented each other beautifully, making the threesome and how their relationship could work long-term quite believable. The sex scenes manage to show both the connection between the characters and be hot and sexy at the same time. All in all, a nice story with engaging characters and hot sex.
