Ethan Abbatt is a wolf shifter who can’t shift. Plagued by pain and weakness all his life, he hopes to find an honorable death by joining his pack mates in a vampire attack. Instead, Ethan learns two things: draining his blood releases his pain and his wolf, and he has a true mate – a vampire named Miguel.

Miguel Rodriguez is more than four centuries old. Strong, powerful, and vicious, he walks through life as a shadow, without happiness or affection. When a young shifter tells Miguel they’re true mates, destined to be together, Miguel sends him away. But Ethan is persistent, and Miguel can’t resist for long. Once Miguel gives in, being together comes naturally. The challenge is keeping themselves alive so they can stay by each other’s side until forever comes.

Review:

Now that was a sweet and sexy read! Whew! This is my first book by this author but won’t be my last. I didn’t read the first one and followed along just fine so no worries there.

Ethan is the pack outcast. He’s never been able to shift into his wolf form and has always been a sickly guy. His prospects as being useful to his pack are nil. He has no friends. Which is basically how he ends up heading to town to take on the new vamps in town with a group of young punks thinking they have something to prove. Ethan isn’t a fool. Since he can’t shift and he’s small he stands no chance at coming back from this battle alive. The idea of going out in a big old bang of glory seems like his option at the time. He knows he’s right when he’s being held against a wall by a particularly brutal vamp and bleeding to death. Right before he gives into the darkness he sees a gorgeous long-haired vamp that awakens something in him. Too bad it’s at the end of his life. The alpha vamp demands his captor let him go and as he slumps to the ground in his own puddle of blood he notices paws instead of hands.

He wakes up excited he’s finally found his wolf form but he can’t get that sexy vamp out of his head. He should just enjoy the fact he can shift but thoughts of the vampire Miguel won’t let up. Even though it’s incredibly dangerous, Ethan knows there’s something drawing him to that vamp. He heads into town on his own this time to find him. When Ethan finds him he feels something physically he’s never felt before. His sexuality hasn’t ever been explored because who would want to mate with the shifter who can’t shift. Ethan has also never heard of two males mating but that’s what he wants and goes for it. Miguel is a little more hesitant. He knows wolves hate vamps and their prejudice towards them. Ethan is also very young and obviously inexperienced with physical pleasures but he intends to enjoy teaching him. When Ethan tells Miguel he’s his true mate, Miguel doesn’t think it’s possible. He’s been alone for over four hundred years but as they get to know each other he finds out Ethan may indeed be the one and only for him.

I liked a lot of things about this book. The sex was hot and frequent. Maybe a little too frequent but the boys were in that MINE lusty phase and poor Ethan never even masturbates! He apparently needed to make up for years of no release. Both men accepted their attraction easily despite everything being against them. I love a vicious vamp and these were definitely that with a dash of compassion. Ethan’s sister was pretty great but I didn’t learn many good things about wolves in this book. Maybe that was covered more in the first book and they seem to be willing to head towards progress. Ethan’s POV was very distinct with his dialect and word usage. I smiled almost every time he said pecker. Hopefully Ted finds someone to love because Miguel is taken. I liked this book. If you’re in the mood for a steamy vamp and wolf romance then I’d recommend it.
