Brandon plays baseball for Virginia Tech. Although his coach is confident he has a successful career ahead of him, Brandon’s not so sure. What if he doesn’t make it? What will he have to fall back on? He wishes he were smarter. He looks at his friend’s roommate and thinks he’d give anything for that confidence and those brains. Because brains and confidence? That’s sexy! If only he could get Corey to notice him, come up with a plan that would appeal to Corey’s inner geek…
Corey’s program of study and academic standing are sure to land him a good job in his chosen career field: cryptology. Those popular kids? They think that because he’s a “geek” he’s missing out on life, but they’re wrong. He’s got his eye on the prize and doesn’t need the distractions of a social life. So why is he having such a hard time ignoring his roommate’s flirty friend?
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group’s “Love Has No Boundaries” event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.
Uh oh…..Madison Parker made me love a YA book! I don’t usually read them because I like a good amount of smexy but this had one of my favorite m/m tropes, geeks and jocks. Things are a little different in this one however.
Brandon is an out college baseball pitcher. He’s good but he’s not sure he’ll make it in the pros. He has no intention of going back in the closet. One day his best friend, Jack, takes him by his room and Brandon becomes intrigued by Jack’s roommate. The little things he picks up from looking at his side of the room are enough to pique his interest. Then he learns the roommate is also gay. Brandon starts having some trouble with his grade in a class and goes to the campus tutor. There he notices one of the employees is a gorgeous dark-haired guy with the best lips. (I’m a sucker for lips, too!) He’s also got to be smart to work there, which Brandon finds very attractive. A few minutes of talking and soon he realizes the cute tutor is Jack’s roommate, Corey.
Corey isn’t your normal college kid. He has a plan to make it through college and have fun later. He’s confident in himself and knows what he likes. He doesn’t date because that would just complicate his life. One day a gorgeous jock walks in needing some help with his statistics class. Oh and he’s Jack’s best friend. Small world or is it? When Brandon leaves, he thinks that’s it but he shows up at his room the next night asking Corey out. Corey is interested but he just doesn’t think he has time for a, lover, boyfriend, whatever it is Brandon is after, so he shoots him down. Luckily Brandon isn’t giving up.
This book was cute and funny with some smexy! Yes, there is sex! Not graphic but it’s hot because the guys are so into each other. I thought the way Brandon left the codes to capture Corey’s attention was brilliant and adorable. The supporting characters were refreshing and there wasn’t one homophobe in the book! There are so many little details that made this story the great little read I thought it was. I highly recommend. 😀
