B L U R B :
After barely surviving a shootout in New Orleans, Sidewinder medic Kelly Abbott has to suffer through a month of recovery before he can return home to Colorado. He’s not surprised when fellow Sidewinder Nick O’Flaherty stays with him in New Orleans. Nor is he surprised when Nick travels home with him to help him get back on his feet—after all, years on the same Marine Force Recon team bonded the men in ways that only bleeding for a brother can. He’s very surprised, though, when Nick humors his moment of curiosity and kisses him.
Nick knows all of Kelly’s quirks and caprices, so the kiss was a low-risk move on his part . . . or so he thought. But what should’ve been a simple moment unleashes a flood of confusing emotions and urges that neither man is prepared to address.
Now, Kelly and Nick must figure out what they mean to each other—friends and brothers in arms, or something even deeper?—before the past can come back to ruin their tenuous future.
This title is part of the Cut & Run universe.

Let’s just start off by saying that was awesome!!! I LOVE Abi’s writing. Her characters just suck me in. The dialogue is witty, fun and sexy as hell. I never want to put her books down. Shock and Awe was no exception. It’s a greatly expanded version of free shorts that were released. It’s so worth the money. IMO anybody who doesn’t get what’s so great about Kelly and Nick will after reading this book will understand after this book. Yes, we got to know these characters in the Cut & Run series but Abi Roux just has this way of getting you close to her characters. You really care what happens to them. Makes you feel everything they go through.
The book is split up into two parts but Bait and Switch is a continuation of Shock and Awe. Shock and Awe picks up just after New Orleans in Touch & Geaux. Nick tags along with Kelly back to his cabin in Colorado. He’s there to take care of his friend but the attraction from the previous book is still there. Neither man really understands what’s going on and why now. Kelly decides to face it head on while Nick tries to fight it and ignore it. Nick has commitment issues and doesn’t want to take advantage of his friend. Kelly isn’t having it though. He asks for a kiss and Nick gives him one. The zing is definitely there. With Kelly’s determination to explore his new attraction, that kiss wasn’t going to be enough. He pushes for more. Both men know it will change their friendship but can’t resist. Things are kind of left up in the air when the Marine’s show up to deliver the same news Ty got in T&G. Kelly does not and that’s really hard for him. He has to let his friend and teammate go off without him.
We get a cameo of Ty and Zane in Shock & Awe. The airport scene had me crying. I am a ridiculous person when it comes to Ty and Zane. I just love them so freaking much. Seeing them from someone else’s POV is always interesting. I want to know what the hell Ty whispered to Zane. I want to know if any of the others noticed anything about Nick and Kelly. I want to know who sent Sidewinder out again and WHY?
Bait & Switch is a shorter story but has Nick traveling back from their secret location for 48 hours. He drops off a short but much needed letter to Zane. You’ll just have to wait but it packs punch. I felt relief for Zane after reading it. The long absence on such a fresh and fragile potential relationship for Nick and Kelly is make or break. Neither knows what the other has been thinking about since their time at the cabin. Will they wait for each other or change their minds about giving what they’ve found together a shot? I think the separation really solidified their relationship. I don’t like them being separated but when they got back together it was so beautiful.
The sex in this book was so damn hot! Another thing I love about Abi is the smoking hot but meaningful sex. There’s always depth to it and it amps up the scenes. The bossy dirty talk was so damn sexy! Plus humor! Huge bonus for me. One of my favorite lines from the book was Kelly convincing Nick he wanted to have sex with him. He told Nick he wanted the “Irish special!” 😀 I will admit Kelly was pretty quick to become a bottom but I didn’t care if it wasn’t totally realistic. Kelly got turned on by how rough and bossy Nick was and who can blame the guy?! If this was a longer book Abi Roux could have teased us mercilessly with Nick denying Kelly or Kelly being ready for the “D”. (another funny bit from the book)
Some people are going to compare this to Ty and Zane and I get it. Just because you like one couple doesn’t mean you can’t love another one. I’m just happy to get more from these guys. Hell, I want more now! I could pick this up and read it again right this second. I’d probably get even more insight into the guys. I loved this book and if for some reason you haven’t marked it on your TBR and pre-ordered it. Do it NOW!
