LYLBTB Advent Event 2013 : Lee Brazil

A big LYLBTB welcome to Lee Brazil …

*waves* Good morning all! I’m so pleased to be invited to stop by here. *hugs Barb* I’m tardy with this, I so know it. I’m in a bit of a tizzy getting the holiday plans sorted out around here. I’m designated cook, so it’s a bit of a hassle. *innocent expression* Okay, it might have something to do with the fact that I refuse to let anyone else in my kitchen. Mostly because they just get in my way. We have a mix of traditional family recipes that we use every year- stuffing and turkey, pie, sweet potato casserole, and so on.

But this year, I’m switching things up a bit and making a dessert that is not pie. That’s right. NOT pie. It’s these simple and easy, addictively tasty little Pecan Pie Cupcakes.

Pecan Pie Cupcakes

Pecan Pie Cupcakes

1 cup chopped pecans

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup packed brown sugar

2/3 cup butter, melted

2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine all ingredients in a medium bow and mix well.

Spray a miniature muffin tin with Baking spray.

Fill each cup ¾ full

Bake in preheated oven for approx 15 minutes.

Makes 24-28 mini muffins.

My advice is to double the recipe because they disappear like magic. These are so easy and delicious they are on my menu for every holiday this year.  Try them!

About the Author :

My family moved a lot when I was young. A constant stream of new schools, new locations and new people made my family and my books my only constant companions. As a child I was swept away into incredible worlds with the turn of every page, from Camelot to Sherwood Forest, the deck of a whaling ship, or the frigid Alaska tundra. Every book I read spurred new adventures…if only I were there to turn left when Lancelot went right, or some such. Even before I started putting my what if’s on paper, I was telling myself stories. As I grew, the stories changed, and the focus changed from wild adventures and feats of daring to simpler, more enduring themes. Today I write about what I believe is one of the most basic of human needs…the need to love and be loved.

When Malcolm Jenner’s sex-on-the-side turns into more, he isn’t above begging for a second chance.

High-profile attorney Malcolm Jenner is looking for a bit of fun, nothing serious. He’s got duties and responsibilities, after all. He doesn’t usually choose his lovers from the office, but his attraction to Jacob Renault is too compelling to resist.

However, Jacob isn’t interested in temporary. He wants it all—Prince Charming, the castle, the happily ever after. There’s no rule that says the younger man can’t have fun while he’s searching for his prince, though…

At first neither is willing to compromise on their stance, but an agreement is reached, with each man planning to do his best to subvert the other to his viewpoint. Lust turns to love, and what’s impossible becomes merely improbable, but is it going to be enough?

R E V I E W :

I absolutely adored this book!! It was a couple of years ago that I read it, and I was curious as to whether it would still have the same KAPOW-factor for me. It did! What surprises me is that there are a couple of things that normally might have put me off – namely cheating, and a big age gap – but it all seemed to work. I have a theory on the why’s, but first a bit about the book …

Malcolm is a hot-shot lawyer, a partner in a big law firm. He is married with a son, and his whole life he has done what was expected of him. Kinda. His dad is a neurosurgeon and that was the route that had been mapped out for Malcolm. He refused, and went his own way by going into law. But that was it, no more fighting his parents on anything – from then on he towed the family line, which meant hiding the fact that he was gay. Him and his wife have an agreement – they are married in name only, they both are pretty much free to do as they choose, but discreetly. (So that takes care of the “cheating” aspect.)

A new tech guy starts at the company and he pushes all Malcolm’s buttons. Jacob is adorable!! He is considerably younger, and in some ways so naïve and almost childish with his wishes for a fairytale prince to sweep him off his feet: but he is also pretty much together. He still lives at home, which on the face of it is sweet – but it is to avoid a massive debt when he completes his degree, which is sensible. But make no mistake – he is no young “dude in distress”! He is quietly determined to have Malcolm. Pursuing him all ninja style. 🙂 not literally, of course. Cos that would be crazy! He also makes no bones about telling Malcolm just what he wants – love, commitment, life partner – the whole enchilada! Malcolm needs to understand that what they are doing is great. For now. But when this guy comes along and sweeps Jacob off his feet, offering him all that he wants, he’s off! No more “practicing.” 😛

Malcolm is also pretty up front about his expectations of their relationship. His wife and his son come first. Divorce is not an option. But time goes on and the two guys fall more and more for eachother – meaning something has to change. And when it does it is heart breaking. 😦 What started off as love in the elevator. Literally. Is now pretty close to a full on commitment – but they both still have this line that they have drawn, and neither guy will back down.

Now for something a wee bit spoilery – I hated Peter (Malcolm’s brother-in-law) for doing what he did – but at the same time, all he did was state the facts. They weren’t going to change until they were forced to. The depths of despair both guys hit after that (although we only see Malcolm’s on page) are heart breaking, and I think this is why the book was such a great one for me – I love reading this kind of angst. Not misunderstandings, or miscommunication but bone deep despair. Not sure what that says about me.. but, still.

I honestly cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is definitely my favourite book by Lee, and I loved the Truth or Dare series – but this book is just deeper! I also just have to say – Cover? Awesome!! and Malcolm’s son Liam? What a star!! loved him to bits! Go. Buy the Book!

B L U R B :

In Loving Jacob they were torn apart, then brought together again for a fresh start. Follow Malcolm Jenner and Jacob Renault through a year of special days as their relationship grows.

Join Malcolm and Jacob as they forge their relationship amid the ashes of the past. From making love again for the first time, to letting go of past ties, these two men still make mistakes, but the past has taught them to be honest with one another and to consider each other’s needs in addition to their own wants and desires.

Celebrate a year of holidays, joys, failures, and triumphs as Malcolm and Jacob learn that it takes more than love to build a relationship that lasts.

R E V I E W :

This was a lovely addition to a book I that I loved, with 2 MC’s I adored! It is a year in the life of Malcolm and Jacob – high days and holidays – starting with a beautifully romantic Valentines Day. I love the idea of this book – picking up from the first book and adding to it. Soooo much more than an epilogue. I would love something like this for all my favourite characters.
