GETTING BACK TO SATISH …
Hi, and welcome to the Inch by Inch blog tour! Inch by Inch is the third in Riptide’s BDSM erotica series The Professor’s Rule, written by Heidi Belleau and Amelia C. Gormley. Today, Live Your Life Buy the Book has asked us to share our thoughts about Satish, the charming menswear salesman we last saw in Giving an Inch, and what his role from this point on in the series will be. All week we’ll be touring the web giving you a behind-the-scenes look at The Professor’s Rule, including new character profiles and some very steamy excerpts. We’re also giving away not one but TWO ebooks, so stay tuned!
Thanks so much to our host, Live Your Life Buy the Book, and to you readers, of course, for coming along!

When we first began writing Giving an Inch, we really had only the vaguest framework for the series in mind. It was meant to be just a loose connection of erotic shorts about the same characters, rather than a continuing narrative. But after the first story, we were left with a lot of questions we felt needed to be answered.
First of all, we wanted to get into what happened in the history we only hinted about in the first book. That’s why we took a step back in time to the genesis of James and the Professor’s relationship in TPR#2, An Inch at a Time. We’re not entirely done telling the story of James and Carson’s past, however. In #3, Inch by Inch, we start to discuss in a little more detail why James left Carson, and that will continue to be explored in the last two books as well, when we begin to see how past and present fold together, how James’s history of addiction affected and was affected by their relationship, and in the end just what is was that made James walk away.
But the other burning question we really wanted to answer was: who is this Satish guy? In his own way, Satish is as enigmatic in Giving an Inch as Carson is, even though we actually get Satish physically present in the story. But it was critical that he not be just set dressing. We wanted him to be more than just a device to advance James and Carson’s story, so it was important to us to give him a lot of agency, and make him a pivotal character, one who really acts as the catalyst for both the conflict and the resolution of the series. It was largely because of that character decision that these stories began to form a narrative arc instead of just being stand-alones.
This is why Inch by Inch focuses so heavily on James and Satish, because Satish was not just a one-off for James and there’s a connection between them. Satish is very much a foil for Carson. He’s working class while Carson obviously has money. He’s young while Carson is much older. He’s intelligent but not an academic; he doesn’t have a college education, while Carson is of course very educated. And, most interestingly, he’s vanilla while Carson is kinky.
But despite being vanilla—while James is an admitted masochist—Satish does have something to offer James. Namely, a sense of grounding, of stability and security he doesn’t necessarily feel at times with Carson, because their relationship was quite tumultuous for James. He also has some common sense and clarity that James—and sometimes even Carson—lacks. And that’s going to be important for the rest of the series.
Satish will be in both Every Inch of the Way (TPR#4) and To the Very Last Inch (TPR#5) which are looking like they’ll be released jointly in early March, and we’re really looking forward to continuing to develop and reveal this character for the readers.

BLURB
After two long, kink-free years apart, James Sheridan has reunited with his Professor: the sexy, dominant Evander Carson. But this time, things will be different. James is older, more sure of himself, and confident that he can draw the line between Carson’s demands and his own principles.
One of those lines is gorgeous menswear salesman Satish Malhotra. After their steamy dressing room encounter, James feels an unexpected connection to Satish, and he wants to explore it further. But Carson’s involvement—in James’s life, and in James and Satish’s budding relationship—complicates things.
Carson’s penchant for using other men in their sex games has always troubled James, and he’s adamant that Satish not be just another notch in their whipping post. But when Satish learns what prompted James to pursue him in the first place, will James’s new ability to draw the line even matter?

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Amelia

Amelia C. Gormley may seem like anyone else. But the truth is she sings in the shower, dances doing laundry, and writes blisteringly hot m/m erotic romance while her son is at school. When she’s not writing in her Pacific Northwest home, Amelia single-handedly juggles her husband, her son, their home, and the obstacles of life by turning into an everyday superhero. And that, she supposes, is just like anyone else
Her self-published novel-in-three-parts, Impulse (Inertia, Book One; Acceleration, Book Two; and Velocity, Book Three) can be found at most major online book retailers, and be sure to check Riptide for her latest releases, including her Highland historical, The Laird’s Forbidden Lover, the The Professor’s Rule series of erotic novelettes (co-written with Heidi Belleau), and her upcoming post-apocalyptic romance, Strain

Heidi
Heidi Belleau was born and raised in small town New Brunswick, Canada. She now lives in the rugged oil-patch frontier of Northern BC with her husband, an Irish ex-pat whose long work hours in the trades leave her plenty of quiet time to write. She has a degree in history from Simon Fraser University with a concentration in British and Irish studies; much of her work centered on popular culture, oral folklore, and sexuality, but she was known to perplex her professors with papers on the historical roots of modern romance novel tropes. (Ask her about Highlanders!) Her writing reflects everything she loves: diverse casts of characters, a sense of history and place, equal parts witty and filthy dialogue, the occasional mythological twist, and most of all, love—in all its weird and wonderful forms. She also writes queer-flavoured M/F as Heloise Belleau.

Yes, Satish appeared in “Giving an Inch” but then for the second book, we knew we had to go back and explore James and the Professor’s history, so “An Inch at a Time” was backstory. Now with “Inch by Inch” we’re in the present day once more and Satish gets to be a player again. Good luck in the drawing!
