LYLBTB Advent Event 2013 : Anne Tenino

Questions for Sam …

Today at “Live Your Life, Buy The Book” we have with us Sam who was featured in Anne Tenino’s “Too Stupid To Live.” Faye has some questions for him about his holidays, and he has bravely agreed to answer them!

As a romance book blog, we’re interested in what some of your favorite romance books have been lately. Have you read anything that really grabbed your imagination?

This is embarrassing to admit, but lately I’ve hardly had time to read at all. So, I guess the answer to your question would be “no” . . .

heroDo you have a favorite hero from any books?

Ohmigod, yes. Um, let’s begin with scifi, okay? The reason scifi is such a perfect environment for a romance hero is because it’s possible to use any combination of factors to explain his weird emotional foibles. So, like, things that wouldn’t be acceptable in contemporary or historical will totally work in sci-fi. Paranormal has the same quality, but I prefer the flexibility millions of potential worlds provides. In paranormal, the author often has to come up with a world that fits into the human understanding of the phenomenon – like wolf-shifters shift with the full moon. A sci-fi author can come up with anything and blame it on another world.

Um . . . what was I saying? Oh! One of my favorite heroes ever is Branden Kel-Paten from Games of Command by Linnea Sincair. As for contemporary heroes, I think my favorite is Luc Martineau from See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson (because he kinda reminds me of Ian, but don’t tell him that (he gets a little strange about being compared to romance heroes), although I also really love both Jae Sun and Shane from “No Souvenirs” by KA Mitchell. Oh, and Max from L.B. Gregg’s “Cover Me”. He kind of reminds me of Ian, too. Huh. … (Faye) I LOVE Max from Cover Me! It’s my absolute favorite Men of Smithfield book! Max is so the strong and silent type and the comparison to Atticus Finch just makes him that much more delicious.

Have you gotten Ian to read any romances?

Like, read them himself? Not so much. He does let me read sex scenes aloud to him, and in the grand scheme of things, I see the benefits of this as far greater than those of him reading a whole book on his own. It’s certainly more immediately gratifying to me.

Since it is the Christmas season (and that’s why you agreed to chat with us), do you have any favorite Christmas stories, romance or not?

Should I, like, claim that The Christmas Carol or something is my favorite? Because it’s not. I don’t even really like it. To be honest, I always think Christmas stories are a little contrived. Um, so I guess that means that “no” I don’t have any?

Have you guys already done your Christmas shopping and gotten each other’s gifts?

I’ve bought Ian his gift already, because of course one does that for one’s true love, and I’ve bought my gift from Ian, because when one is hooked up with a man like him? Sacrifices must be made. He does always buy me what I want, though. It’s a win-win.

Have you done any snooping?

Of course not! I’d never violate his trust that way and try to discover what I’ve bought for him to give to me.

christmas-cookiesDo you get super-festive and bake lots of cookies and decorate, or is one of you a Grinch or Scrooge type?

You might find this hard to believe, but I’m not really the domestic type. I know, I look like I should be, don’t I? But its like nature forgot one of the gay genes. I got all the ones that make me femme, horny and obvious, but the decorator gene? Not so much.

Have you guys started any fun holiday traditions?

Well, Ian got a red and green plaid kilt and I wrapped myself up in a bow . . . That was fun.

Where will you be this Christmas? Are you spending time with family or friends?

We’re going to my parents. My mom has been pressuring me for a long time, because they’ve never met Ian, but Ian has been pressuring me to avoid it (he doesn’t really like family) so I made a few, you know, deals with him, and we’re going this year.

Q U I C K   F I R E   R O U N D :

Seasonal pyjamas or naked snuggling?

Naked snuggling.

Spicy gingerbread or vanilla sugar cookies?

Why do people even like vanilla sugar cookies? I’ve never understood this. Who cares how pretty you can make it if it tastes like sweetened sawdust?

peppermint hotchocolateHot chocolate or peppermint hot chocolate?

I don’t sully my chocolate with any flavoring agents but Ian’s essence.

Regular Ian balls or decorated Christmas Ian balls?

*drool* Maybe I do have that decorator gene, after all . . .

Thank you so much, Sam (and Anne Tenino!) for putting up with our curiosity!

You’re welcome! It was fun, but I’d just like to reiterate that I spoke only on the condition that Ian doesn’t find out, right? Great. Merry Christmas!

He’ll never know. I promise. You can totally trust me. 😛

BLURB

It isn’t true love until someone gets hurt.

Sam’s a new man. Yes, he’s still too tall, too skinny, too dorky, too gay, and has that unfortunate addiction to romance novels, but he’s wised up. His One True Love is certainly still out there, but he knows now that real life is nothing like fiction. He’s cultivated the necessary fortitude to say “no” to the next Mr. Wrong, no matter how hot, exciting, and/or erotic-novel-worthy he may be.

Until he meets Ian.

Ian’s a new man. He’s pain-free, has escaped the job he hated and the family who stifled him, and is now—possibly—ready to dip his toe into the sea of relationships. He’s going to be cautious, though, maybe start with someone who knows the score and isn’t looking for anything too complicated. Someone with experience and simple needs that largely revolve around the bedroom.

Until he meets Sam.

Sam’s convinced that Ian is no one’s Mr. Right. Ian’s sure that Sam isn’t his type. They can’t both be wrong . . . can they?

About the Author

th (1)

Raised on a steady media diet of Monty Python, classical music and the visual arts, Anne Tenino rocked the mental health world when she was the first patient diagnosed with Compulsive Romantic Disorder. Since that day, with her trusty psychiatrist by her side, Anne has taken on conquering the M/M world through therapeutic writing. Finding out who those guys having sex in her head are and what to do with them has been extremely liberating.

Anne’s husband finds it liberating as well, although in a somewhat different way. He has accepted her need for “research”, and looks forward to the benefits said research affords him. He thinks it’s kind of cool she manages to write, as well. Her two daughters are mildly confused by Anne’s need to twist Ken dolls into odd positions. They were raised to be open-minded children, however, and other than occasionally stealing Ken1’s strap-on, they let Mom do her thing without interference.

Anne’s thing is writing gay romance and erotica.

Wondering what Anne does in her spare time? Mostly she lies on the couch, eats bonbons and shirks housework.
