Blurb:

This macho jock has a crooked little secret.

College hockey player Austin Puett is in trouble. Unless he starts treating his flamboyantly gay roommate with respect, he’ll lose his room and his job at Rear Entrance Video. But Austin’s got a not-so-straight secret of his own: nothing turns him on more than insults implying he’s gay—even though he’s definitely not!—and all his old coping methods have stopped working.

Pure desperation drives him to rent a Mischievous Pictures porn flick about straight men tricked into servicing Puck, a male dominant. Instead of letting off steam, though, it just leaves him craving more, more, more, and suddenly, Austin finds himself at Mischievous Pictures Studios for an audition. After all, you can be Gay For Pay and still be straight . . . right?

But meeting Liam Williams, the real person behind Puck, confuses Austin even more. Liam really seems to like him as a person, and Austin likes him back. And while Gay For Pay’s okay, what does it make Austin if he still wants Liam when the cameras aren’t rolling?

Review:

This is the third book in the series but IMO could be read as a stand alone. You miss a little back story with some characters but they’re barely in the book so I don’t think it would be problem. This book focuses on Austin. One of the last remaining straight roommates. Of course he’s not. He’s just in deep denial.

Austin’s big problem is he’s so ashamed of being gay. To make matters just a little more tricky he actually gets off on being humiliated and fantasizes about being treated like a play thing. Austin is pretty much a mess. People see him as a typical jock. Homophobic to an extent. It’s a vicious cycle of lust and shame Austin has been working his entire life to suppress. He’s been able to do so successfully until now. Working in a gay porn store proves to be too tempting. He decides to snag a video about straight boys being dominated and degraded by a big leather daddy type named Puck.

Puck pushes ALL of Austin’s buttons and one video leads to 5. Soon Austin has to face that he’s got a kink and is most likely gay. At least curious. One day he meets Puck at the porn store. The man seems to enjoy his company. Now Austin78 knows he’s interested in what Puck likes to dish out to straight boys. All he has to do is offer himself up as a new gay for pay guy at Puck’s porn studio. Puck says no thanks to the offer. Forcing Austin to admit that he wants Puck, a man, to dominate and use him sexually.

I thought the kink in this book was super sexy. Even if it’s not something I’m into, there was no denying it was hot. Austin fantasizes about sex and degradation on an almost uncomfortable level but the heavier stuff is in his head so it never goes too far. This book hit on something I thought was interesting rather deliberate or not. The message about fantasy vs. reality. You can fantasize about something hard core but prefer it toned down a bit in RL. Austin thought he’d want whatever Puck threw at him but realized he had his limits. Maybe wondering and thinking about it for the first half the book got Austin a little too worked up. He certainly struggled with it. I did get a little frustrated with how long Austin fought with himself about what it was he really wanted. It took up a large portion of the book.

The book had very little to do with hockey beyond Austin being on the team and Puck being a previous player. There were some cameos from the previous couples in this series. The sexual connection between Austin and Puck was always there. There was something emotional going on. Friends for sure and maybe more but then there’s a freak out when Puck goes too far. They separate and reunite. Then they’re suddenly professing love. It all felt kind of wrapped up very neatly and quickly.

I’d say this is definitely a sexy read with a rarely written kink. It was done very well and honestly. We see Austin’s desire and shame all play out on page. You get it and understand it’s what he wants. He finds a partner who excels at giving it, so he gets his kinky little HEA after all.
