Blurb:

Kenneth Carver had everything growing up except warmth and acceptance. When protecting his family’s name became more than he could bear, he came out as gay, sold his company, and bought a horse ranch.

Andrew Wofford’s last undercover assignment nearly cost him his sanity. Now he has another chance of catching the drug runner who killed one of his informants and then escaped, but gruesome flashbacks threaten his ability to function in the field.

Andy’s latest investigation sends him to Ken’s ranch where he poses as a ranch hand. Ken is a prime suspect, but Andy refuses to believe Ken is guilty, in part because Andy is falling for him. Ken knows Andy isn’t who he seems, but he can’t bring himself to push the man away. When Ken hears rumors that someone is using his land to move drugs out of the city, he worries that it’s Andy. Neither man can trust the other even though that’s exactly what their hearts tell them to do.

Review:

Holy hell that was pretty damn hot. Like angry sex hot. They of course fall for each other but the dynamic between the MCs was fight and fuck the entire time. For most of the book they don’t exactly trust each other. Finding people Andy can trust and will work for a gay ranch owner isn’t easy.

Kenneth is a rich boy who bought a horse ranch with the money he made selling his company. It basically ended any contact he had with his family but that’s fine with him. They didn’t like him for the real him anyway. `

Andy is still messed up after the death of a contact from his last undercover case. He shouldn’t be back in the field but this new case could help him catch the bastard who murdered the guy because he vouched for Andy. He also knows a little bit about working with horses and who else can they find on such short notice?

They start the back and forth dynamic right away. This pretty much establishes how they interact but it seems to get both guys going. I don’t really know why they like each other. Neither trusts the other guy. Andy is undercover because drugs are being run through Ken’s land. He could be in on it. Ken knows Andy’s resume isn’t one hundred percent true. He knows Andy is hiding something. The thing they do have from the start is lust. Things kind of build from there but I think I would have liked a little less sex and a little more building the relationship.

The baddie was very typical and easy to dislike. I think this storyline made for a pretty good back ground for the main focus, which was the relationship. There really wasn’t any “aha” moments. Definitely some intense moments. Whew! Andy’s character was particularly intense with his PTSD issues and overall hard ass attitude while trying not to break down. I love intense characters. Ken’s character confused me. I just didn’t understand where he was coming from and why he kept Andy around when he knew something was wrong. Or maybe I just thought Andy’s back story was just more interesting. Who knows.

So IF you’re in the mood for a mild bad guy murder mystery with some really hot angry sex this may be a one for you. Mrs. Violet sure had a potty mouth in this book which I love! I enjoyed a lot of the secondary characters. Another good read from this author!
